COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES WHITE

Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée

Found lying between Nîmes and the Mediterranean, Costières de Nîmes is the most southerly of the Rhône valley’s vineyards and, paradoxically, the coolest. A climate that makes its mark on the wines, characterised by a nice fruity palate and surprisingly refreshing potential. Very Rhone-like though, Costières de Nîmes’ reds, rosés and whites impart the unique character of a wine area where everything naturally links back to the Rhône Valley’s vineyards.

Tasting note

With notes of white peach, lis, candied ginger, this slightly golden wine, is powerful, sweet, saline and fresh (minty finish) on the palate.

Varieties

Viognier.

Site

Pebbly terrain with clay-limestone subsoil. These pebbles are particularly good at radiating the warmth built up during the day back to the vines. So they play a part in getting the grapes perfectly ripe. The exceptional draining capacity of these pebbles also allows any surplus water to quickly drain away during heavy spells of rain, which prevents certain diseases from developing.

Yelds

Yields are 25 hectolitres per hectare

Winemaking

Also born out of a Southern grape variety, this wine has partially fermented in a half vat for maturing in stirred light lees; this practice, widely used and particularly in Burgundy, increases volume in the mouth and bouquet of aromas.

Packaging

75cl. Black case 6 bottles lying down.
