CÔTES DU RHÔNE WHITE

Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée

Côtes-du-rhône is produced on the right and left banks of the Rhône between Vienne and Avignon. The surface area under production is 44 000 hectares. Annual production is 1,2 million hectolitres on average (160 million bottles) and comes from 7 000 vineyards, which are on average 10 hectares in size. Only 2000 of these are privately owned estate wineries; the rest is split up among cooperatives.

Tasting note

Pale colour, lightly golden. Elegant and delicate nose with fresh mango, white peach and vanilla. Full-bodied mouth-feel, soft with fresh fruit and spices (curry). Minty notes add freshness and texture on the finish.

Varieties

roussane

Site

Pebbly terrain with clay-limestone subsoil. These pebbles are particularly good at radiating the warmth built up during the day back to the vines. So they play a part in getting the grapes perfectly ripe. The exceptional draining capacity of these pebbles also allows any surplus water to quickly drain away during heavy spells of rain, which prevents certain diseases from developing.

Yelds

Yields are 50 hectolitres per hectare.

Winemaking

Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The Roussanne is stirred with the fine lees for about ten days to add extra complexity.
